I’m Brizsa – a photographer, a fan, and a woman. Women represent less than 25% of the music industry, with an even smaller percentage behind the scenes, while also consistently topping music charts.
The femme presenting artists, photographers, tour managers, publicists, stylists… we’re all a very tight knit group of friends in my head. And I have spent my life obsessively listening to female-fronted music. There’s something about a sassy, witty, strong, delicate, horny female voice has always resonated with me. And now? Well, now I’m the president of The Boys’ Club 🙂
A “boys’ club” refers to an informal social group of men who exclude women or other marginalized groups, often in professional or recreational settings, and sometimes engage in exclusionary practices. While it can also refer to positive organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs, the term is more commonly associated with situations where women or non-members face barriers to entry or opportunities.
After a few years of getting more involved with my local music scene by photographing music, and a lifetime of annoying everyone around me with rants about the disparity between artists and the industry they are forced to feed, I’ve decided to put it on the internet and let it be a door to access. I want to photograph artists I love, I want to talk to them and understand how they stay weird. I want to convince you to cancel your Spotify subscription, open your ears to smaller artists that are changing the game, and I really want to know what you’re listening to.
This blog is my passion project. I will interview artists, photograph shows, blab about some really great music, nerd out about cameras and lenses, share my favourite recipes, try to change your mind, and just talk about anything that makes me feel good. Here’s your reminder that sharing, just for the sake of sharing, is fun!! haha!
